In 2021, energy conglomerate Uniper sold the Öresundsverket power plant in Malmö to Dutch company Paco Holding, which subsequently sold the decommissioned plant to a Turkish energy company. When Svenska kraftnät decided that the power plant would be included in Sweden's energy preparedness and recommissioned, Uniper halted the sale.
Uniper has been promised compensation of over one billion SEK by Svenska kraftnät to restore the power plant to operational condition. Paco Holding, which is facing damages claims from the Turkish energy company, has unsuccessfully sought compensation from Uniper. Paco Holding argues that Uniper’s actions were disloyal and grounds for damages:
– Uniper does not want to pay more than a symbolic sum, and we are very far apart. Therefore, we are preparing a claim and intend to file for arbitration if we cannot reach an agreement beforehand, says Mikael Ericson, attorney and partner at Fylgia, to Dagens Industri.
